Tour Plan
Days 1-2: Maasai Mara Game Reserve
You will be met on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and depart for the Masai Mara via the Great Rift Valley viewpoint, where you will stop briefly to take in the panoramic scenery. Descending the escarpment, the journey continues along the historic Hemingway trails to Narok Town for lunch, before proceeding to the Masai Mara. You will arrive in the late afternoon at Keekorok Lodge, with time to freshen up and enjoy tea or coffee before heading out for an evening game drive until sunset.
The following day is spent on full-day game drives within the reserve. A picnic lunch will be served at the hippo pools, overlooking the Masai Mara River, where hippos and crocodiles are commonly seen. The Masai Mara is renowned for its exceptional wildlife density and vast herds of plains game. During the migration season, thousands of wildebeest and other species cross the river, creating one of the world’s most dramatic wildlife spectacles.
Set within over 700 square miles of open savannah, Keekorok Lodge was the first lodge established in the Masai Mara Game Reserve and is ideally located along the migration route. Opened in 1962, the lodge offers excellent access to morning and evening game drives. Guests can enjoy traditional cuisine at the Hippo Bar overlooking the water, atmospheric bush dinners at the Elephant Deck, and optional nature walks within the lodge’s private reserve. The Keekorok Airstrip is just 10 minutes away, with shuttle services available on request.
Day 3: Lake Nakuru National Park
Enjoy an early morning game drive from 06:30 to 09:30, the best time to observe predators at their most active. Leopards, cheetahs, and lions are often seen during this period as they hunt in the cool hours before sunrise. Return to the camp for a full breakfast, followed by a visit to a traditional Maasai village (manyatta) for a cultural experience. Thereafter, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, with lunch served en route. You will arrive in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge.
Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s most popular and scenic parks, centered around a shallow alkaline lake renowned for its birdlife. The park supports large populations of pelicans and a wide variety of other waterbirds. While Lake Nakuru was once famous for vast flocks of flamingos, environmental changes since 2012 have caused most flamingos to migrate to other Rift Valley lakes. The park remains a key sanctuary for wildlife, including both black and white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffe, and large predators.
Days 4-5: Amboseli National Park
After an early breakfast, depart for a morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, where you may encounter lions, buffalo, hyenas, waterbuck, antelopes, and abundant plains game, as well as both white and black rhinos. Thereafter, proceed to Amboseli National Park, with lunch served en route. Enjoy a game drive on arrival as you enter the park, set dramatically in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Check in at Amboseli Sopa Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Amboseli is famously known as the “Land of Giants”, home to large herds of elephants with impressive tusks. The park offers exceptional wildlife viewing against the iconic backdrop of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, particularly in the early morning when skies are clearest. In addition to elephants, Amboseli supports abundant plains game including buffalo, wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra, and gazelles. Lions are the most commonly seen big cats, while rhinos are absent from the park.
The landscape is a striking mix of open dusty plains, acacia woodlands, and lush marshy swamps fed by underground rivers from Kilimanjaro’s glaciers. This unique contrast of ecosystems, combined with dramatic mountain scenery, makes Amboseli one of Kenya’s most photogenic and rewarding safari destinations.
Day 6: Tsavo West National Park
After breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive in Amboseli National Park, right in the heart of big game country. In addition to elephants, antelope, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, and lions, almost every view is magnificently framed by Mount Kilimanjaro rising in the distance. An optional visit to a Maasai village offers insight into traditional culture and daily life. Thereafter, depart for Tsavo West National Park. Upon arrival, check in at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge.
After lunch, set out on an afternoon game drive in the vast wilderness of Tsavo West National Park, which covers approximately 20,808 square kilometers. The park features a remarkable diversity of landscapes, including open plains, savannah bush, semi-desert scrub, acacia woodlands, and dramatic rocky ridges. With reliable permanent water sources, Tsavo West supports large concentrations of wildlife, offering excellent game viewing opportunities. Species commonly encountered include elephants, cheetahs, lions, leopards, and hyenas, with the region supporting one of Kenya’s largest elephant populations.
Day 7: Departure, Transfer Mombasa
After an early breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive before departing for Mombasa, arriving in the late afternoon. Upon arrival, the safari comes to an end, with an optional beach extension available for those wishing to relax and explore Mombasa’s pristine, palm-fringed beaches and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
